The Bystander Effect

Why we as change agents need to use social signals to our advantage

In the embedded video, I talk about how people often imitate the behavior of others and how we as change agents need to pay close attention to social signals if we want our change efforts to succeed. As discussed in the book Switch, I cover the Bystander Effect described by Latané and Darley, some research by Christakis into social transmission of obesity, and a study of the contagiousness of drinking behavior on college students.
